Lady Bears Have 4 ECAC Qualifiers at Golden Flash Gala

The Morgan State women's indoor track and field team closed out the 2010 season with a good performance over the weekend at the Golden Flash Gala, hosted by Kent State. The Lady Bears captured two events, while placing 21 athletes in the top 10. Morgan State also finished the meet with four ECAC qualifiers, including a relay team.

Tanisha Kendrick captured the 400 meter dash in a time of 55.43 to become an ECAC qualifier. Kendrick's time is the fastest in the MEAC and third fastest in the nation. Fellow teammates Ekundayo Sogbesan (57.29) and Avionne Sloan (57.71) came in second and third, respectively. Sogbesan (10th) and Sloan (23rd) are also ranked in the top 25 in the nation.

Kendrick, Sogbesan and Sloan teamed up with Kamice Smalls in the 4X400 meter relay to help the team to a second-place finish in the event with a time of 3:47.72, which is the seventh fastest time in the nation this season and qualify for both the MEAC and ECAC championships.

Teyanna Green, who took third in the 200 meter dash in a time of 25.07, also placed sixth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.69 to qualify for the MEAC championship. Briana Barlow placed third in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.83 and seventh in the 60 meter dash (7.74) to become a MEAC qualifier.

Competing in her first multi-event, Monae Waller placed second in the pentathlon with 3464 points to earn a No. 7 ranking in the nation and qualify for both the MEAC and ECAC championships. Waller also tied for second in the high jump with five people, including teammate Jeanelle Ovid with a jump of 5-05.00. Candace Shirley qualified for the MEAC championships with a toss of 55-01.00 in the weight throw.
