MEAC Announces Track And Field Weekly Honors

Morgan State juniors Allison Randall and Tyron Benjamin were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Friday.

Randall (Jr., Throws, Reisterstown,Md.) set a meet record in the weight throw with a 17.95m (58-10.75 ft.) at the Great Dane Classic, hosted by the University of Albany. Randall's toss set a school record and earned her a first-place finish. She also finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 13.32m (43-08.50 ft.).

Benjamin (Jr., Throws, Giraudel, Dominica) provisionally qualified and won the shot put with a school record throw of 17.98m (58-11. 75 ft.) at the Great Dane Classic. His throw leads the MEAC and is 12th in the nation this season in the event.

Lawrence Campbell (Ham) was third in the 800m (1:56.09) at the UNC Classic.

David Dunbar (FAMU) took home a top three finish with a time of 6.88 in the 60m dash at the UNC Classic.

Donte Holmes (DSU) won the 800m run and posted a NCAA provisionally qualifying time of 1:49.68 at the Great Dane Classic.

Sean Holston (NSU) won the 200m dash with a time of 21.28 at the Hokie Invite. He also placed second in the 300m (33.36) and guided the 4x400m relay team to a third place finish with a time of 3:12.13.

Kenya Jones (Ham) was second in the mile with a time of 5:03.93 and 15th in the 3,000m with a time of 10:50.19 at the UNC Classic. Jones also guided the distance medley team to a first place finish in 12:25.71.

Wanetta Kirby (NSU) placed fourth in the long jump with a 5.83m (19-1.50 ft.) jump. She ran an 8.62 in the 60m hurdle prelims and finished with a time of 8.71 in the finals at the Hokie Invite.

Kendra Mayers (DSU) finished fourth in the 400m with a time of 55.90 and aided her team to a third place finish in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:51.03 at the Great Dane Classic. In field events, Mayers was seventh in the triple jump with an 11.49m leap.

Erica Peake (SCSU) won the 200m with a time of 24.69 at the Niswonger Invite. She ran a 7.63 in the prelims of the 60m dash and finished third in the finals with a time of 7.73. Peake also competed in the long jump (5.38m), triple jump (10.68m) and 4x400m relay (3:53) last weekend.
