NSU's Holston Caps Big Weekend with 200m Victory

BLACKSBURG, Va. - First-year sophomore Sean Holston capped his strong weekend with a victory in the 200 meters and a leg on Norfolk State's 4x400 meter relay on Saturday afternoon at the Virginia Tech Hokie Invitational at Rector Field House.

A day after setting a school record in the 300 meters (33.44 seconds), Holston ran a blistering time of 21.28 seconds on Saturday to win the 200 meters. It was the fastest time in the MEAC this season and a collegiate best time for Holston, and was just .05 shy of an NCAA qualifying mark. Holston also ran a leg on the Spartans' 4x400 relay team, which ran a season-best time of 3:12.13 to finish third. He was joined on the relay by Thomas Speller, Tyrell Moon and Kenny Smith.

The Spartans' other win Saturday came from sophomore Philemon Kimutai. The Wyoming transfer won the 5,000 meters in 14:45.51.

Other highlights included a season-best 800-meter time of 1:55.49 for freshman Vincent Brown, who finished sixth; and a season-best shot put throw of 51 feet, 7.25 inches by sophomore Frede Spellman, who finished in ninth place.

The Spartans continue their indoor season next weekend at Penn State.
