Randall Breaks Great Dane Classic Record in Weight Throw
NEW YORK, N.Y. (Jan. 22, 2010)-Morgan State junior Allison Randall had a toss of 58-10.75 in the weight throw earlier today at the Great Dane Classic, thus breaking the meet record at The Armory Track & Field Center.
Randall's mark qualifies her for the ECAC meet and breaks the previous meet record set in 2007 by Tetee Kuyateh of St. John's (56-07.25).

Holston Sets New 300m School Record at Va. Tech
BLACKSBURG, Va. - First-year sophomore Sean Holston set a new Norfolk State school record in the 300 meters on Friday night to highlight the Spartans' first-day efforts at the Virginia Tech Hokie Invitational.
Holston finished second in the 300 in a time of 33.36 seconds. He was beaten out by Georgia's Torrin Lawrence, who ran a blistering 32.32. Both marks topped the previous Rector Field House record of 33.44. Holston's clocking also beat out Troy Wilkerson's school-record time of 34.43 set on the same track in 2007.
Holston wasn't the only Spartan to run well in first-day action. Sophomore Quinten Walker ran a PR of 6.82 seconds to place third in the 60 meters. Junior Aramis Massenburg also earned a third-place finish in his event. He ran a season-best time of 7.94 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.
The meet resumes on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

Rams, Lady Rams Open Strong at 2010 Niswonger Foundation Indoor Invitational
JOHNSON CITY, TN - The Winston-Salem State University men's and women's track & field teams returned to action at the 2010 Niswonger Invitational Indoor Track & Field meet, Friday. The Rams and Lady Rams got things off to a strong start with some impressive performances against a crowded field of teams.
Senior sprinter Paul Williams set the tone for the Rams when he posted a 6.92 in the men's 60m dash, qualifying for the finals of the event tomorrow. The effort kept a three-meet streak going in which the senior qualified for the finals of the short sprint. Williams also had a solid day in the men's 200m dash with a 22.14 in the event. He placed third in his heat of the event. Sophomore Andrew Chebii was also strong on the day when he placed third in section one of the men's 800m run. Chebii posted a 1:55.59 in the event. Fellow sophomore Desmond Wiggan finished ninth in the section with a 2:02.09.
Redshirt-freshman hurdler Stephanie Brown recorded a third-place finish in her section of the women's 60m hurdles. She finished the event with a 9.62 in the event. Freshman Tyrah Winfrey was also solid with a third place finish in her section of the women's 800m run. She finished the event with a 2:20.87 in the event.
Both the Rams and Lady Rams will return to action to complete the event tomorrow.

HAWKS PLACE 7TH AND 8TH AT ALBANY GREAT DANE CLASSIC
NEW YORK, N.Y. - Maryland Eastern Shore men's and women's indoor track and field teams continued their season with the Albany Great Dane Classic at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York, N.Y. Friday.
With over 40 schools and track clubs from the Northeast, Florida and Puerto Rico, the Hawks fared well in the meet. The men's team placed 7th overall with 33 points while the women's team was 8th with 36.
Fifteen UMES participants placed in the top 10 of their respective events while nine were in the top five.
Sophomore Vanessa Henry topped 22 throwers for the gold in the women's shot put with a throw of 14.73m. Her distance was her personal best for the season and also a season-best for the Lady Hawks. Henry also placed seventh in the weight throw with a distance of 15.05m.
Junior Eunice Jones ran a time of 2:17.16 in the 800m, which was good for second overall. Sophomore Cynthia Anais also placed second in her event, the mile, with a time of 5:03.28, both her best and the team's seasonal best. In the 55m hurdles, senior Ariana Forbes had a time of 8.31 to place fourth.
In the men's side, sophomore Akheem Gauntlett and junior Thomas Keane-Dawes took second place in their respective events. Gauntlett ran a time of 21:68 in the 200m while Keane-Dawes had a time of 48.06 in the 400m.

Bethune-Cookman Track & Field at the ETSU Niswonger Invitational
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman Track & Field opened competition, Friday, at the Niswonger Invitational at the Memorial Center, on the campus of East Tennessee State University. B-CU faces a huge field in this weekend's meet, with over 50 universities in attendance. The Wildcats turned in some solid finishes in the few events with finals on day one, while qualifying three for finals performances in tomorrow's competition.
Leading the team on the first day, Ron Danielle Williams collected B-CU's first points, finishing second in the women's shot put. Although eventually slipping behind Wilamena Hopkins of Alabama, it came down to the last throw to decide the winner. Williams threw a distance of 14.45m (47-05.00 ft.) to earn the silver in today's final. Maketa Ruffin tied for tenth place with a distance of 12.29m (40-04.00 ft.).
