Pirates, Lady Pirates Release Track Schedules

 

Hampton men's and women's track & field teams have released their 2009-2010 indoor and outdoor track & field schedules, slates that include a pair of home meets - one during the indoor season and another during the outdoor season.

The Pirates will open the 2009-2010 indoor schedule on Dec. 5 at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md., while the Lady Pirates will be in Newport News that day for the Christopher Newport University Holiday Open. From there, the Pirates will head to Kent, Ohio on Dec. 11-12 for the Golden Flash Gala hosted by Kent State University.

Once the calendar flips over to 2010, the Pirates and Lady Pirates will be in Fairfax, Va. on Jan. 9 for the George Mason University Father Diamond Invitational, before heading to State College, Pa. Jan. on Jan. 16 for the Penn State Northeast Challenge. Hampton will then host its second annual Hampton University Invitational on Jan. 22-23 at the Boo Williams Sportsplex, before both teams return to State College, Pa. on Jan. 29-30 for the Penn State National.

From there, the Pirates and Lady Pirates will head to New York, N.Y. for the Armory New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Feb. 5-6, while select members of both teams will head back to CNU in Newport News for the Vince Brown Invitational on Feb. 6.

The 2010 MEAC Indoor Championships will be held in Landover, Md. on Feb. 11-13. The Lady Pirates will look to win their eighth straight title, while the Pirates will look to build on last year's third-place finish.

The Lady Pirates will be in Blacksburg, Va. on March 6 for the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier, while the Pirates will head to Boston on March 5-7 for the 2010 IC4A Indoor Championships. Qualifying athletes will then compete in the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. on March 11-13. Francena McCorory is the defending champion of the indoor 400-meter dash.

Both the Pirates and Lady Pirates will open the 2010 outdoor schedule on March 20 at the William & Mary Tribe Invite in Williamsburg, Va., before heading to Tuscaloosa, Ala. on March 24-27 for the Alabama Relays. From there, the Pirates will head to Gainesville, Fla. for the Florida Relays on April 1-3, while the Lady Pirates will compete in the Texas Relays in Austin on those same dates.

Select Pirates and Lady Pirates will be returning to Williamsburg on April 2-3 for the Colonial Relays.

The Hampton Relays will return to Armstrong Stadium on April 10, before the Pirates and Lady Pirates head to Baltimore on April 17 for the seventh annual Morgan State Legacy Meet. Both teams will wrap up April by competing in the historic Penn Relays, which will be held April 21-24 in Philadelphia, Pa.

The 2010 MEAC Outdoor Championships will be held May 6-8 in Greensboro, N.C. on the Irwin Belk Track at North Carolina A&T. The Lady Pirates will look to add yet another conference title to their collection, and the Pirates will look to improve upon 2009's runner-up finish.

The Pirates and Lady Pirates will then travel to Princeton, N.J. on May 13-15 for the IC4A and ECAC Outdoor Championships for the second straight year, before qualifying athletes will return to Greensboro, N.C. on May 27-29 for the NCAA East Regional.

The 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships will be held June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore. From there, the Pirates and Lady Pirates will compete in the USA Outdoor Track & Field Nationals, which will be held June 23-26 in Des Moines, Iowa.
