Delaware State University’s Donte Holmes has attained All-America status for his performance at the 2009 NCAA National Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Holmes, a sophomore, was 11th in the semi-finals of the NCAA championship 800-meter run with a time of 1:47.61 last Thursday. He reached the semi-finals with a time of 1:48.05 in the preliminaries the day before.
Delaware State’s Leslie Murray also earned All-America recognition after finishing sixth in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2009 NCAA nationals on Friday. Holmes and Murray are Delaware State’s first track & field All-Americas since the NCAA adopted its current championship format in 2000. The 2009 MEAC 800-meter champion, Holmes has competed in the NCAA nationals in each of the last two years.
