Hampton University junior Francena McCorory finished third in the 400-meter dash at the 2009 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at John McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
McCorory ran a season- and career-best 50.58, finishing .02 seconds behind second-place Jessica Beard from Texas A&M. Auburn’s Joanna Atkins won the NCAA title with a 50.39.
McCorory’s time was also a school record.
Sophomore Reggie Dixon finished eighth in the men’s 100-meter dash final on Friday, running a 10.38. Louisiana State’s Trindon Holliday won the title with a time of 10 seconds flat.
Dixon also ran a 21.77 in Thursday’s 200-meter dash preliminaries, the 23rd-fastest time in that round.
