Junior Allodin Fothergill ran 45.44 in the men's 400-meter semifinals in the 2009 Outdoor Track and Field Championships at McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas Friday to advance to Saturday’s final.
Fothergill finished second in heat two to qualify for the final, set for Saturday at 12:12 p.m. central time. He is fourth overall heading in to the championship race, having lowered the time he posted Wednesday to get into the semifinal.
Fothergill was fifth after the prelims with a time of 46.01. The Jamaican Olympian joins student-athletes from seven other schools Saturday.
Florida State's Jonathan Borlee (45.25) ran the top time in the semifinal. Michael Bingham (45.28) of Wake Forest and Calvin Smith (45.40) of Florida rounded out the first three spots.
