Hampton Lady Pirates Win 2009 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Title

2009 MEAC Outdoor Track and Field Results

 

The Hampton University Lady Pirates and Norfolk State University Spartans won the 2009 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Irwin  Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University.

  

The Lady Pirates tallied 119 points en route to their seventh consecutive MEAC outdoor track and field title. Hampton’s Krystle Medlin and Francena McCorory led Hampton with 24 and 22.50 points, respectively.  

 

Coppin State’s Natoya Baird earned Outstanding Performer accolades after tallying 29 points. Baird won the heptathlon during day two action. She also scored in the high jump, long jump, triple jump and javelin during the competition.

 

“I am really happy and proud of this award for my school and my coach,” said Baird. “I am looking forward to continuing my education and preparing for the Olympics and World Championships.”

 

Lady Pirates Head Coach Maurice Pierce earned Outstanding Coach accolades for the sixth consecutive year.

 

“This was the hardest outdoor championship to win,” explained Pierce. “Our team overcame injuries, but we found a way.”

 

Maryland Eastern Shore finished second with 109 points. The Norfolk State Spartans were third with 106 points, followed by North Carolina A&T (82) and Bethune-Cookman (70) to round out the top five.
