Coming off a surprising and disappointing fifth-place finish a few weeks ago at the MEAC championship, Morgan State senior Leitawsha Bronson returned to form and placed second in the shot put to conclude her 2009 IC4A Outdoor Track & Field championships on Sunday at Weaver Stadium.
Bronson, who took silver in the event with a throw of 49-01.75, also qualified for the NCAA Regional championships, hosted by MEAC rival North Carolina A&T State on May 29-30 in Greensboro, N.C.
Morgan State’s 4X400 meter relay team of Tanisha Kendrick, Jamia Robinson, Avionne Sloan and Kamice Smalls came in fourth with a time of 3:44.27. During the preliminary round, the team which consisted of Ashley Hines along with Kendrick, Robinson, Sloan ran a time of 3:41.90 and qualified for the NCAA Regional Championship.
Allison Randall also competed at the ECAC Championships and finished 10th in the discus with a throw of 143-10 and was 23rd in the hammer throw with a toss of 48.20.
As a team the Lady Bears scored 13 points and finished in 23rd-place out of 59 teams. Connecticut claimed the 2009 title with 88 points.
The final list of all athletes who will compete at the NCAA Regional Championships will be announced on Sunday, May 24.
