Freshman Vanessa Henry captured the college women's eastern division of the shot put at the 115th annual Penn Relays at Franklin Field Thursday.
Henry topped a field of 32 with a throw of 14.76 meters (48 feet, 5.25 inches), just six centimeters off the event record, set at last year's Penn Relays.
Henry's teammate senior Saisha Woodward was sixth with a mark of 13.46 (44 feet, two inches).
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Celia Whyte, Merrecia James, Danai Lendor and Cynthia Anais, also won its heat in event in 3:46.94 to finish 19th overall in a field of 84 schools.
The Penn Relays continue Friday as the Hawks compete in the three more relays: the men's 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400.
