The Hampton University men’s track & field team won the team title at the 2009 Hampton Relays, held Saturday at Armstrong Stadium on the campus of Hampton University.
The Pirates finished with 182 points, while second-place Maryland-Eastern Shore scored just 98 points. The Lady Pirates finished fifth with 72 points, while Norfolk State took the team title with 144.5 points.
The Pirates won six event titles, with three reaching NCAA regional qualification marks. Predist Walker qualified in the long jump with a distance of 7.37 meters, while Aaron Anderson reached the qualifying mark with his 10.52 in finishing second in the 100-meter dash.
Reggie Dixon qualified with a win in the 200m dash with a time of 20.84.
Dixon, Walker and Anderson joined Brandon Jones to take the 4x100m relay in 40.78, while Nero Sandino took the 5,000m run in 15:56.96.
Freshman Bruce Thompson a 1:54.23 won the 800m run, while teammates Yaphet Cross (1:55.43) and Lawrence Campbell (1:57.95) finished second and third, respectively.
Alvin Tondereau finished first in the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.73.
Rachel Lewis gave the Lady Pirates one of their two event titles, taking the long jump with a distance of 5.59 meters. Krystle Medlin won the other title after running a 19:00.75 in the 5,000m run.
