NSU?s Kirby Chosen to Compete in the 2009 CARIFTA Games

Norfolk State sophomore track and field athlete Wanetta Kirby  was chosen to represent her native U.S. Virgin Islands in the girls under-20 long jump at the 2009 CARIFTA Games in St. Lucia, West Indies. The 2009 Games run from April 10-13.

 

Kirby, originally from St. Croix, U.S.V.I., will jump in the finals of the long jump at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 11. She set her personal best of 19 feet, five inches in the long jump during her prep career and had a team-best mark of 19-1 ? for the Spartans last outdoor season.

 

The CARIFTA Games is an annual junior athletics track and field competition founded by the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA), which is comprised of 26 countries in the Caribbean and South America. The Games was first held in 1972 in Bridgetown, Barbados and has two age categories: under-17 and under-20.
