MEAC Announces Track and Field Weekly Honors

Howard University junior Landria Buckley and Hampton University junior Brandon Jones were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Friday.

 

Buckley (Jr., Romulus, Michigan) qualified for the NCAA regional with a first-place finish in the 110m hurdles at the Colonial Relays. Her time of 13.69 is first in the MEAC in the event this season. She also anchored the 4x400m relay team that took home second place honors with a time of 3:44.96. As a team, the Lady Bison finished 10th out of 24 teams.

 

Jones (Jr., Virginia Beach, Virginia) led his team to a ninth place finish at the Colonial Relays. Jones won the 400m dash with a time of 48.13. He also anchored the 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams that won with times of 41.42 and 1:26.55, respectively.

 

Other Top Performers:

 

Jonee Artis (NSU) led all Spartans in the high jump with a 5-7 leap to tie for sixth place at the Pepsi Florida Relays.

 

Eric Cray (B-CU) qualified for the NCAA regional with a sixth place finish and a time of 52.06 in the 400m hurdles. He also led the sprint medley relay team that finished in second place with a time of 3:23.60.

 

Daniel Kinney (How) finished in first in the 110m hurdles (14.29) and the 400m hurdles (52.62) at the Colonial Relays. He also helped the 4x110 shuttle relay (1:03.12) and 4x400m relay (3:15.67) teams to fifth place finishes.

 

Jerrine Foster (NCAT) won the discus at the Aggie Relays with a 148 ft toss and finished in second in the shot put with a 47 ft. throw.  

 

Gordon Smith (NCAT) qualified for the NCAA regional in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.4 at the Aggie Relays. He also finished in second place in the 4x400m relay with a time a time of 3:10.85.

 

Thomas Speller (NSU) was first in the 200m with a time of 21.36 and was second in the 100m with a time of 10.72. He also ran on the 4x200m relay team that earned a third place finish in 1:27.84.

 

Racquel Vassell (HAM) qualified for the NCAA regional with a time of 13.73 in the 100m hurdles at the Colonial Relays.

 

RonDanielle Williams (B-CU) threw a season best 14.65m (48-00.75 ft) toss in the shot put at the Pepsi Florida Relays. A day later, she recorded a 42.10m (138-10 ft.) throw in the discus at the Riddle Run Around.
