MEAC Announces Track and Field Weekly Honors

Howard University junior Landria Buckley and Bethune-Cookman University senior Joel Redhead were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Thursday.

 

Buckley (Jr., Romulus, Michigan) qualified for the NCAA regional in two events at last weekend’s Wake Forest Open. The junior won the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.56 and followed that performance with a victory in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.70.

 

Redhead (Sr., St. Johns Grenada) qualified for the NCAA regional with a first-place finish in the 200m dash (20.93). He also took home second place honors in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:18.75 and  ran the anchor leg in the 4x100m relay that finished in second place with a time of 40.38.

 

Other Top Performers:

 

Tavia Burke (B-CU) finished in third with a time of 13.80 in the 100m hurdles and ran the first leg of the 4x100m relay team that finished in second place with a time of 44.92 at the UCF Black and Gold Invite.

 

Allodin Fothergill (UMES) won the 200m dash with a time of 21.23 and the 400m dash with a time of 47.26 at the Wake Forest Open.

 

Naomi Tanui (CSU) set a school record with a time of 10:25.50 in the 3,000m at the Texas Southern Relays. She was also among the top ten finishers in the 1,500m relay with a time of 4:55.52.

 

Celia Whyte (UMES) won the 800m (2:11.20) and was 14th in the 1,500m (4:44.91) at the Wake Forest Open.

 

Donta Young (SCSU) finished just shy of a top three showing with a time of 14.83 in the 100m hurdles at the Coastal Carolina Shamrock Invitational.
