MEAC Announces Track and Field Weekly Honors

Coppin State senior Natoya Baird and Delaware State sophomore Larrone Moore were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.

 

Baird (Multi Events, Sr., Lowlands, Tobago) accounted for 28 of her team’s 70 points to lead the Lady Eagles to a fifth place finish at the Thomson Invitational, hosted by the University of Delaware.  She won the long jump with a leap of 5.31m (17-05.25 ft.) and the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.02. Baird was just shy of a top spot with a 1.7m (5-07 ft.) mark in the high jump.

 

Moore (Sprints/Long Jump, So., Hyattsville, Maryland) won two individual titles and guided his team to a second place finish at the Thomson Invitational, also hosted by the University of Delaware. He captured the gold in the 60m dash with a time of 6.9 seconds and the long jump with a 6.84m (22-05.25) leap. He ran the second leg of the 4x400m relay team that finished in second place with a time of 3:23.87.

 

Other Top Performers:

Kevin Bowen
(MSU) finished in second place with a time of 47.80 in the 400m dash. He was also a part of the distance medley relay team that set a school record with a time of 10:12.64.

 

Victoria Faulkner (NSU) set a school record with 3,514 points in the pentathlon at the CNU Captain’s Invitational.

 

Nekisha Franklin (DSU) won the 200m with a time of 24.65 and ran the first leg of the 4x400m relay team that captured the gold with a time 3:57.85 at the Thomson Invitational.

 

Ahkeem Gruntlett (UMES) won the 200m dash with a time of 21.80 and was the third leg of  the 4x400m relay team that finished third at the Penn State National Invitational.

 

Brandon Lynch (HAM) earned a third place finish in the 500m with a time of 1:03.40 at the Penn State National Invitational.

 

Tanisha Kendrick (MSU) won the 500m run with a time of 1:31.61 at the Penn State National Invitational.

 

Kristal McGreggor (HAM) won the weight throw with a 15.89m (52-01.50 ft.) toss at the CNU Captain’s Invitational.

Josef Tessema (NSU) ran a personal-best of 4:14.91 in the mile at the Penn State National meet.
