MEAC Indoor Track and Field Championships-Day One

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) completed day one of the Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex in Landover, Md.

Morgan State’s Allison Randall won the weight throw with a 16.15m (53-00 ft.) toss. Teammate Candace Shirley followed in second with a 16.12m (52-10.75 ft.) and Maryland Eastern Shore’s Saisha Woodward finished in third with a 14.49m (47-06.50 ft.) toss.

 

The Morgan State Lady Bears lead after day one with 19 points. Maryland Eastern Shore followed with 13 points and Hampton finished the day with 10 points.

 

In men’s action, Morgan State’s Anthony Napoleon captured the gold in the weight throw with a 15.19m (49-10 ft.) toss. Napoleon’s teammate Tyron Benjamin took home second place honors with a 14.60m (47-11 ft.) mark. North Carolina A&T’s Robert Boulware rounded out the top three with a 14.30m (46-11 ft.) toss.

 

Morgan State took the lead heading into day two with 18 points. North Carolina A&T finished in second with 11 points followed by Norfolk State (4), South Carolina State (3), Delaware State (2) and Bethune-Cookman (1).

The championships will resume on Friday with the men’s heptathlon and women’s shot put. Other field events on Friday’s slate include the men’s and women’s long jump, the men’s pole vault final, and the women’s high jump. The afternoon continues with the men’s and women’s 800m run, 60m hurdles, 60m dash, 200m dash, and 400m dash. The men’s and women’s distance medley relay will close out the day’s events.

 

The final day of competition starts Saturday at 9 a.m., with the women’s pole vault and conclusion of the women’s pentathlon events. Early afternoon field events include the men’s heptathlon, shot put, high jump and triple jump events.  A complete schedule of events is available on www.meacsports.com.

 

Saturday, February 14 is designated as Youth Day. Fans 14 and under are admitted free.

 

Admission for the Indoor Track and Field Championships is $5 for adults and $3 for students, children, and senior citizens. Tickets are available at the Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex the day of the event.
