Morgan State returned to action on Friday and placed sixth as they took part in the Albany Great Dane Classic held at the Armory Track & Field Center, in New York.
The Bears finished the meet with 39 points, just three points shy of passing fifth-place Binghamton (41.50). Morgan State also ended the day with two IC4A qualifiers in Dakari Taylor-Watson, who took fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 47-09.25 and Tyron Benjamin, who placed second in the shot put with a toss of 57-09.50. James Blocker was the team’s lone NCAA provisional qualifier, as he captured the high jump with a leap of 7-01.00.
Other Bears who had a good outing in New York were, Nathan Mesta, who placed fifth in the mile run in a time of 4:18.19 and Stephen McLean, who placed sixth in the 55 meter dash (6.49). McLean also took 10th in the 200 meter dash, finishing in a time of 22.25.
Blocker also added a sixth-place finish in the long jump to go with his high jump title, as he jumped 22-10.50, while Taylor-Watson finished eighth in the long jump (22-05.00).
Anthony Napoleon earned a fourth-place finish in the shot-put with a toss of 50-10.75.
Morgan State returns to the track this weekend (Jan. 30-31) for its second trip to State College, Pa. in three weeks, as the Bears participate in the Penn State National Meet.
