It was a good day in New York for the Morgan State women’s indoor track and field team, as four Lady Bears won individual titles and nine athletes became ECAC qualifiers in their respective events, while helping Morgan State to a second-place finish on Saturday at the Albany Great Dane Classic held at the Armory Track & Field Center.
Avionne Sloan captured the 400 meter dash with a winning time of 56.00, while Jamia Robinson took third in a time of 57.04. Both Sloan and Robinson became ECAC qualifiers with their respective times.
Tanisha Kendrick and Leitawsha Bronson also earned individual titles and became ECAC qualifiers. Kendrick claimed the 500 meter dash, finishing the race in a time of 1:14.56, while Bronson won the shot-put with a toss of 46-00.75.
Morgan State’s last title came from the 4X400 meter relay team, which won the event with a time of 3:49.01 and also earned ECAC qualifier honors.
Tendai Hill just missed out on earning a title victory in the 200 meter dash, coming in second with a time of 24.75, however, Hill’s time was enough to earn ECAC qualifier status. Hill would also earn ECAC qualifier honors in the 55 meter dash with her ECAC qualifier time of 7.19, which was good for sixth. Ashley Hines placed fifth in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.18 to become an ECAC qualifier. Ashley Adams also became an ECAC qualifier with her third-place finish in the 55 meter hurdles (8.06).
The Lady Bears return to the track this weekend (Jan. 30-31) for their second trip to State College, Pa. in three weeks, as they participate in the Penn State National Meet.
