CSU?s Smith Captures Pole Vault Title at Maryland Invitational

Senior Shane Smith won the pole vault title at the Maryland Terrapin Invitational highlighting the performances of the Coppin State men's track and field team on Saturday at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex.

Smith won the event by clearing 15-9 to easily defeat runner-up Dominic Devaud of UMBC who cleared 14-11.

The Eagles also received an outstanding performance from Brandon Miles. Miles finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 23-6.75, which is a personal-best jump and ranks as the third-best indoor jump in school history.

The Coppin State 4x400-meter relay team also posted a top-10 finish as the Eagles placed third overall in a time of 3:18.45.

Winston Whittingham and Andre Pinnock each placed in the top 20 in the 200 meters. Whittington placed 13th in 22.77, while Pinnock was 17th in 23.04.
