Behind three event wins, Maryland Eastern Shore had a strong showing at the Navy Invitational at Wesley A. Brown Field House Saturday.

Seniors Merrecia James and Saisha Woodward earned victories in the 800 meters and shot put, respectively, in the seven-team, non-scoring meet.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Monique Hawkins, Danai Lendor, Eunice Jones and Jones also paced the field to win that event.

Two Lady Hawks set personal records in their respective events. Freshman Cynthia Anais ran her top time in the 800, while junior Tamica Thomas did the same in the mile run.

UMES head coach Ernest Barrett was pleased with his team's showing.

"Hawkins had a good performance in the 200-meter, Jocelyn Wheeler did well in the shot put, Eunice Jones ran well in the 400-meter and so did Lendor, who finished in the top five," he said.

"I just wanted to see where each individual was in their preparation for the upcoming championship season."
