MEAC Olympians will begin their quest for the gold beginning Saturday at 10:50 a.m. (ET) with Norfolk State's Chandra Sturrup competing in the 100m.
Maryland Eastern Shore's Allodin Fothergill garnered All-MEAC honors during his sophomore season, earning two first-place finishes in the 200m and 400m dashes. He was named to the Jamaican Olympic team with a time of 45.97 and a fourth place finish in Jamaica’s Olympic Trials. He will compete as a part of the 4x400m relay team.
Former Norfolk State’s student-athletes Chandra Sturrup and Chris Brown will be competing for the Bahamas beginning on Saturday, August 16. Sturrup is competing in her fourth Olympics. She is a two-time medalist, having won silver in Atlanta in 1996 as a member of the Bahamian 4x100 meter relay team and gold in Sydney in 2000. Brown is a two-time All-American for the Spartans (2000-01) He also won a silver medal at the World Championships that year.
Howard’s David Oliver, a four-time MEAC champion, will compete on Monday, August 18 in the 110 meter hurdles. Oliver earned a berth to the XXIX Summer Games in Beijing with a time of 12.95 and set the Hayward Track record.
