Coppin State junior Steve Delice advanced to the semifinals of the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a record-setting performance on Wednesday at Drake Stadium.
Delice won his heat in a school-record time of 50.24, which shattered his previous record of 50.71. Competing in the second heat, Delice easily defeated Robert Griffin of Baylor who finished second in 50.78.
Delice posted the third-best overall time during qualifying heats. Jeshua Anderson of Washington State had the best time of 49.90, while Rueben McCoy of Auburn posted the second-best time of 49.99 and Delice was third in 50.24.
The top two finishers in each of the five heats plus the next six fastest times advanced to the semifinals on Thursday.
