MEAC Announces Track and Field Weekly Honors

 Delaware State University senior Nekisha Franklin and sophomore Larrone Moore were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Thursday.

Franklin (Sr., Brooklyn, New York) captured a first-place finish with a time of 12.37 in the 100m dash at the Hornet Invitational. Franklin was victorious in the 200m dash with a time of 24.78, which is the fastest MEAC 200m time this outdoor season. The senior was also a member of the 4x100m relay team that took home first place honors with a time of 48.72.





Moore (So., Silver Spring, Maryland) helped his team to a first-place victory, among seven teams, at the Hornet Invitational. Moore captured the gold in the 100m dash with a time of 10.91 and won the 200m dash with a time of 21.79. He ran the second leg of the 4x100m relay that finished in second place with a time of 42.27.





Other Top Performers:

Garrett Blakley (SCSU) ran a time of 47.98 to finish second in the 400m dash at the Weems Baskin Invitational.

James Blocker (MSU) leapt to a first-place finish in the high jump with a 2.03m mark (6-08 ft.) at the Hornet Invitational.

Jennifer Chichester (NSU) ran a season-best 4:44.07 in the 1500m run at the Raleigh Relays.

Jamahl Strachan (UMES) earned two first place finishes with a 26.85m (88-01ft.) mark in the discus throw and a 3.99m (13-01ft.) pole vault throw at the Hornet Invitational.

Celia Whyte (UMES) finished second in the 800m with a time of 2:11.43 at the Raleigh Relays.
