TALLAHASSEE, FL ? The 2008 outdoor season started out with a bang for the Winston-Salem State Lady Rams track & field team. The squad posted a number of great finishes at the 58th Annual Florida A&M Relays at the Pete Griffin Track Complex.
After qualifying for the finals of the women’s 100m dash yesterday, WSSU junior Wykeita Barnett capped her first event of the 2008 outdoor season with a fifth place finish in the finals. She posted a time of 12.27 in the event, besting sprinters from both Alabama State and Florida A&M in the process. She was not done; however, as she returned to help the WSSU women’s 4x100m relay team to a 7th place finish. The squad posted a time of 49.18 in the event.
WSSU senior Irene Jeptolo followed her great effort on the opening day of the event with an equally impressive effort on day two of the event. After winning the women’s 3000m steeplechase on Friday, she returned to place 6th in the women’s 1500m run. She finished the event in a time of 5:09.37 in the event.
The Lady Rams will return to action next weekend when the team heads to Conway, SC to take part in the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
