TALLAHASSEE, FL ? The Winston-Salem State Rams track & field team got the 2008 outdoor season off to a strong starter, powered by some great efforts by the Rams’ distance and middle distance runners. The Rams placed a pair of top ten finishes in distance and middle distance events to cap a great overall performance on day two of the 58th Annual Florida A&M Relays.
WSSU senior Kenneth Keoch had the top finish for the Rams with a 7th place finish in the men’s 1500m run with a time of 4:23.77 in the event. Not to be outdone by the senior WSSU freshman Cornell Jones had a solid day as well finishing eighth in the men’s 800m run in a time of 2:09.06 in the event.
The Rams also added a pair of strong performances in the men’s 400m dash as well with WSSU senior Gerrod Sidbury finishing 11th in the event in a time of 52.96. Close to him was WSSU junior Richard Marcellus, who finished 13th in the event in a time of 53.01.
The WSSU sprint relay team also had a strong showing on the day placing fifth in the men’s 4x100m relay in a time of 44.01. The squad left behind teams from Tuskegee, Alabama State, and Clark Atlanta, among others.
The Rams will return to action next weekend when the squad heads to Conway, SC to take part in the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
