Rams Sprinters Impress Home Crowd at Wake Forest Open

 The Winston-Salem State Rams track & field team didn’t have any hometown jitters when they took part in the 2008 Wake Forest Open, Friday. The team had some strong performances on day one of the meet, including some great performances by the WSSU sprinters.

WSSU senior Gerrod Sidbury had the best individual performance of the day for the Rams, placing 13th in the men’s 400m dash in a time of 48.58. In total, 98 runners competed in the event with Sidbury. Junior sprinter Richard Marcellus also had a great showing at the meet with 25th place finish in the men’s 100m dash. Marcellus placed 25th in a time of 11.07 in the event. WSSU sophomore Brandon Howe finished 29th in the event in a time of 11.13. There were 81 sprinters taking part in the event with both Rams placing in the top 30.

The 2008 Wake Forest Open will kick off day two of the event at 9:30 am. The Rams will open begin competition at 12:20 p.m. as WSSU senior Kenneth Koech will take part in the men’s 1500m run.
