CONWAY, SC ? The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams track & field team took center stage on day two of the Coastal Carolina Invitational, Saturday. The Lady Rams had another strong day on the track, powered by some great performances by the Lady Rams’ distance runners and sprinters.
WSSU senior distance runner Irene Jeptolo continued her great start to the outdoor season with her second first place finish in the women’s 3000m steeplechase. She finished the event in a time of 11:19.64 to win the event. The effort capped a great weekend for Jeptolo, who placed sixth in the women’s 3000m run yesterday.
The Lady Rams sprinters were also great on day two of the event with WSSU junior Wykeita Barnett leading the way for the Lady Rams with an eighth place finish in the women’s 100m dash in a time of 12.37. Fellow Lady Ram sprinter Kayla Long finished 16th in the event in a time of 12.65. WSSU freshman sprinter Chantelle Bethea finished 14th in the women’s 200m dash in a time of 26.08. WSSU freshman Allegra Seegars finished 19th in the event in a time of 26.29.
The WSSU relay team also had a great finish placing 14th in the women’s 4x400m relay in a time of 4:14.81.
The Lady Rams will return home for their next competition as the team will take part in the 2008 Wake Forest Open at Kentner Stadium on the campus of Wake Forest University.
