MEAC Announces Track and Field Weekly Honors

University of Maryland Eastern Shore senior Saisha Woodward and Hampton University sophomore Predist Walker were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.

 

Woodward (Sr., Atlanta, Georgia) set a school record in the shot put event at the UMES Lid Lifter Invite. The senior’s first place throw of 14.79m (48-06 ? ft.) topped the previous record of 14.58m (47-10 ft.) and is the top mark in the MEAC this season. Woodward also earned a first-place finish with a 13.72m (45 ft.) toss in the weight throw.

 

Walker (So., Suffolk, Virginia) competed in four individual events and finished among the top five in three events at the UMES Lid Lifter Invite. Walker’s third-place mark of 7.20m (23-07 ft.) and first-place time of 7.97 in the 60m hurdles are also top marks in the MEAC this season. The sophomore also took home a fifth place finish in the 60m dash with a time of 6.93, which ranks fourth in the MEAC, and was seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 22.93.

 

Other Top Performers:

 

Racquel Vassell (HAM) earned two individual titles in the long jump (5.77m) and 60m hurdles (8.70) and was the anchor of the 4x400m relay team that finished with a time of 3:53.78 at the UMES Lid Lifter Invite.

Amon Kiprotich (UMES) won the 3000m run with a time 9:06.42 at the UMES Lid Lifter Invite.
