MEAC Announces Indoor Track and Field Weekly Honors

Hampton University sophomore Racquel Vassell and Morgan State University junior Kevin Bowen were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.

 

Vassell (So., Irvington, New Jersey) won two individual titles in the long jump (5.79m) and 55m hurdles (7.93) at the Christopher Newport Holiday Open. She was also a member of the 4x400m relay team that captured the gold with a time of 3:51.89 and took home second-place honors with a time of 7.02 in the 55m dash.

 

Bowen (Jr., St. Andrews, Grenada) competed in back-to-back meets last weekend and finished among the top ten in five events. At the Navy Invitational, Bowen captured the gold in the 200m (21.62) and the 400m dashes (48.03) and was a part of the 4x400m relay team that finished just shy of a top five spot with a time of 3:22.99. He followed that performance with a first-place finish in the 500m dash with a time of 1:03.58 and helped the 4x400m relay team earn a second-place finish with a time of 3:24.47at the Bucknell Invite.

 

Other Top Performers:

 

Jonee Artis (NSU) tied for a first-place finish with a leap of 5-6 ft. (1.68m) in the high jump at the Christopher Newport Holiday Open.

 

Donte Holmes (DSU) won the 800m with a time of 1:54.42 at the Navy Invitational. He was also a member of the 4x400m relay team that captured gold with a time of 3:15.97.

 

Nekisha Franklin (DSU) won the 60m dash (7.49) and the 200m dash (24.40) at the Golden Flash Invitational, hosted by Kent State.

 

Jamia Robinson (MSU) won the 300m dash with at time of 41.03 and aided the 4x400m relay team to a first-place finish with a time of 3:51.52.

 

Predist Walker (HAM) won two first-places titles in the long jump (7.48m; 24-06 ft.)and the 60m hurdles (8.03) at the Navy Invitational.
