North Carolina A&T junior Alexandria Spruiel and Coppin State senior Shane Smith were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
Spruiel (Jr., Detroit, Michigan) finished first in the 400-meter with a time of 55.21 at the Niswonger Invitational. Spruiel’s time is the second fastest 400-meter time in the MEAC this season. She also placed third in the 200-meter race with a time of 24.86 and ran a leg of the 4x400 meter relay team that finished third with a time of 3:49.83.
Smith (Sr., Brooklyn, New York) shattered his own school record and captured first place in the pole vault event at the Maryland Terrapin Invitational in Landover, Maryland. Smith cleared a height of 5.1 meters (16-08.75 ft.) and topped his previous best of 4.8 meters (15-09 ft.)

Ashley Maddox (SCSU) won the high jump at the Niswonger Invitational with a 1.71 meter (5-07.25 ft.) jump.
James Moore (UMES) broke a school record with a 2.09 meter (6-10.25 ft.) leap in the high jump event at the Penn State Open.
Calesio Newman (NCAT) won the 100-meter race at the Niswonger Invitational with a time of 6.77 seconds.
Dania Sanford (NSU) earned a first-place win with a time of 58.03 in the 400-meter race at the Maryland Terrapin Invitational.
Tanisha Wisdom (UMES) ran the anchor leg of the 4x400 meter relay team that broke a school record with a time of 3:42.40 at the Penn State Open.
