NSU Freshman Show Well at Virginia Tech Invite

 Freshman She'Anna Mitchell earned a fifth-place finish in the high jump with a jump of 5-04.5, while freshman Jennifer Chichester finished eighth in the mile run (5:16.45) to lead the Norfolk State women's track team on Saturday at the Virginia Tech Invitational.

Junior Victoria Faulkner turned in an eighth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 18-02.25 and was NSU's top finisher in the 55m hurdles (8.53). Freshman Wanetta Kirby recorded NSU's next best mark in the long jump (17-00.5) and finished behind Faulkner in the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.64.

Dania Sanford, another first-year Spartan, finished 10th and 14th, respectively, in the 200m (25.52) and the 300m (40.33). Sanford also posted a time of 7.29 in the 55m preliminaries.

Sophomores Alyssa Pickett (1:21.98) and Candace Shoates (1:25.10) and senior Rachel Griffin (1:25.86) were the Spartans' top finishers in the 500m.

The Spartans travel to Landover, Md. to take part in the University of Maryland's Invitational meet on Saturday.
