Patricia Porter-Mayfield returned to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in July 2023 as Associate Commissioner for Strategic Communications. In this role, she leads the conference’s storytelling strategy, manages relationships with broadcast partners, oversees all media relations initiatives, and also serves as Chief of Staff and Senior Woman Administrator for the MEAC.
Porter-Mayfield brings more than 17 years of experience in collegiate and professional athletics. She previously served the MEAC from 2006–2016 in several leadership roles, including Director of Media Relations, Director of Media Relations/Corporate Partnerships and Marketing, and Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations. During her tenure, she managed external communications, served as the primary media contact for football and men’s basketball, and managed the conference’s corporate partnerships and marketing efforts. She also spearheaded the conference’s first live-streamed championships and managed media operations for the inaugural Celebration Bowl.
Outside of the MEAC, Porter-Mayfield has held key positions across sports and higher education, including Director of Partnerships with Spectra at Comcast Spectacor, Senior Executive Assistant to the Dean at Virginia Commonwealth University, and Contract Specialist for the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).
She began her career in collegiate athletics at her alma mater, Johnson C. Smith University, as Sports Information Director and Senior Woman Administrator, before serving as Director of Sports Information at Hampton University. She later advanced to the professional ranks as Public and Community Relations Manager for the NBA Development League (now the G League) and Director of Communications for Southwest Basketball, LLC.
An Atlanta, Georgia native, Porter-Mayfield is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She resides in Prince George, Virginia, with her husband, Vernon, and their two sons, Micah and Trey.
