NORFOLK, Va. – With the college football season underway and the 2026 National Football League (NFL) season set to begin later this week, four Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) coaches and personnel staff members are bringing valuable professional experience back to their respective programs after participating in the NFL’s Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship and Nunn-Wooten Scouting Fellowship.

South Carolina State’s Jason Onyebuagu, Delaware State’s Donovan Warren and Howard’s Michelle-Joell Boateng participated in the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship, gaining firsthand experience with the Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders, respectively.

Boateng is an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Bison.

The Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship provides NFL coaching experience to talented college and high school coaches, as well as former players. Designed as a vocational tool to increase the number of full-time NFL minority coaches, the fellowship has been a longstanding initiative of the league.

Howard’s Janice Pettyjohn participated in the Nunn-Wooten Scouting Fellowship with the Washington Commanders.

Created by the NFL in January 2015, the Nunn-Wooten Scouting Fellowship is designed to provide aspiring scouts with hands-on experience in professional football personnel. Participants work alongside NFL scouting staffs, gaining exposure to the evaluation process and developing their ability to identify talent.

Named in honor of Bill Nunn, the longtime personnel director for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and John Wooten, a former NFL player and front office executive, the fellowship is part of the NFL’s Football Development program under NFL Football Operations.
