WASHINGTON, D.C. (Feb. 11, 2026)--The Morgan State women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season in historic fashion on Wednesday morning, as the Lady Bears defeated host George Washington, 4-3 at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center.
The win was Morgan State's first-ever victory over GW, while putting an end to a three-match losing skid.
The Lady Bears (1-3) began the match taking the doubles point following wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Michaela Stephens and Julia Jeffrey earned a 6-4 win over the Revolutionaries' Solange Skeene and Viki Sasinka 6-4. Morgan's tandem of Damla Arslan and Tyler Williams also earned a 6-4 win over Alexandra Lindqvist and Devika Manu at No. 3, giving the Lady Bears a 1-0 lead.
Morgan State and GW then split the singles matches each winning three. Stephens earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles, while Amira Bargacei claimed a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 2 over Viki Sasinka. Damla Arslan secured the Lady Bears' last victory, earning a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles to give Morgan the 4-3 win.
Next Up: The Lady Bears return to the courts on Thursday, Feb. 19, when they travel to Columbia, Missouri to take on William Woods (Mo.). The match will be played on the campus of the University of Missouri.
