WASHINGTON (September 22, 2025) – STATS Perform unveiled its HBCU National Weekly awards where Howard University football team was selected Team of the Week. The announcement came Monday morning.
 
Saturday (Sept. 20), the Bison defeated Hampton, 34-7, in the annual P&G Truth & Service Classic, presented by EventsDC. Howard dominated from start-to-finish in the 100th chapter of the Battle of the Real HU, holding a 34-point advantage midway through the fourth period. With the victory, the squad snapped its eight-game skid against the Pirates, dating back to 2014.
 
The Howard offense racked up 456 yards, led by second-year tailback Travis Kerney (Sebring, Fla.) rushing for a career-high 113 yards on the ground. Defensively, sophomore linebacker Ja'Quavion Smith (Wingate, N.C.) led the Bison with seven total tackles, including three tackles for loss and two sacks.
 
North Carolina Central running back Chris Mosley won HBCU National Player of the Week.
 
Howard travels to Richmond, Va., Saturday (Sept. 27) to take on the Spiders of Richmond. Kickoff at 2 p.m.
