BALTIMORE – Despite shooting 56.0% from the floor, the Coppin State men's basketball team fell at local rival Loyola Maryland, 95-84, on Sunday night at Reitz Arena. The Eagles fell to 2-8 on the season while the Greyhounds improved to 4-5.

Five CSU players scored in double figures, led by Hassan Perkins with a career-high 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting to go with five assists.  Perkins hit 6-of-11 from the floor, including a 3-pointer, and all six of his free throws.

Chris Morgan, Tyler Koenig and Nelson Lamizana scored 11 points apiece, combining to shoot 11-of-16 from the field. Lamizana also hit a three and blocked two shots and the trio also made a combined 10-of-12 from the stripe. Koenig led the Eagles with five rebounds.

Before fouling out, Jamari Piercy added ten points in just 18 minutes. Khali Horton followed with nine points, DeMariontay Hall with six, Torrin Andrews with four and Daveyon Lydner with three.

Loyola hit 56.4% of its shots from the floor and buried 12-of-29 (41.4) 3-pointers. Emmett Adair and Jordan Stiemke combined for 50 points while Jacob Theodosiou had 18 points on 12-of-13 free throws and ten assists.

The Greyhounds looked likely to pull away in the first half but the Eagles rallied from a 25-14 deficit to take a 34-33 lead with 2:48 remaining following a pair of free throws by Koenig.  Back-to-back layups by Loyola gave the hosts back the advantage and they went into the half with a 41-39 lead after Lamizana drained a three for the Eagles.

Opening the second half on an 11-3 run, Loyola quickly extended its lead back to double digits, but Perkins and Horton kept Coppin alive with a run that cut the margin to just 62-58 at the 11:47 mark.  Another spurt by the 'Hounds got the advantage back to double digits once again, and this time the Navy & Good were unable to answer.

CSU will head to West Virginia for a 7 pm tipoff on Wednesday, December 3.
