MEAC Announces Weekly Football Honors - NCCU’s Harris and S.C. State’s Washington Earn Top Awards

North Carolina Central quarterback Walker Harris has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced today. S.C. State’s Jarod Washington was recognized as the Defensive Player of the Week, while teammate Roger Smith was named Offensive Lineman of the Week. Morgan State’s Randall Nauden was selected as Rookie of the Week, and N.C. Central’s Kaleb Robinson earned Specialist of the Week accolades.

Walker Harris (QB, 6-1, 195, r-Sr., Wake Forest, N.C.) surpassed the 2,500-yard mark for the season after throwing for 265 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-28 win over Norfolk State. Harris completed 24-of-39 passes and notched his fourth game this season with three or more touchdown passes.

Jarod Washington (DB, 6-2, 188, Sr., Fredericksburg, Va.) led the Bulldogs’ defense with a standout performance, scoring two defensive touchdowns in the 42-12 win over Howard. He returned a fumble 77 yards for a touchdown and added a 27-yard interception return for another score. Washington also recorded four solo tackles and five pass breakups.

Roger Smith (OL, 6-4, 330, Sr., Maple Heights, Ohio) anchored an offensive line that helped the Bulldogs generate 337 yards of total offense against Howard. Smith earned a 91-percent grade, recorded seven pancake blocks, and did not allow a sack as S.C. State remained undefeated in conference play.

Randall Nauden (RB, 5-10, 195, r-Fr., Olympia Fields, Ill.) rushed for 104 yards on seven carries, including a 67-yard touchdown run, in a strong outing against Delaware State.

Kaleb Robinson (P/K, 6-2, 190, So., Middleburg, Fla.) connected on field goals of 32, 26, and a career-long 48 yards, while also finishing 4-for-4 on PAT attempts. He accounted for 13 points in N.C. Central’s win over Norfolk State.

  • Liam Allen IV (Howard) punted eight times for 334 yards, with a long of 55 yards and two touchbacks.
  • Vincent Byrd Jr. (Norfolk State) graded out at 88-percent with two knockdowns, helping the offense produce 403 total yards (164 rushing, 239 passing) against Delaware State.
  • Janish Elliott (S.C. State) recorded five punts for 209 yards, including one inside the 20 and one punt over 50 yards against Howard.
  • A.C. McMoore (N.C. Central) earned an 89-percent grade with three pancake blocks, supporting an offense that totaled 270 passing yards and 80 rushing yards.
  • Thomas Johnson (N.C. Central) posted three tackles, including two for a loss of 10 yards, one sack, one blocked field goal, and four quarterback hurries in the win over Norfolk State.
  • Marco Peery (Norfolk State) went 4-for-4 on PATs and tallied 286 yards on five kickoffs with two touchbacks.
  • Terique Miles (Norfolk State) registered eight tackles, including six solo, with two tackles for loss against N.C. Central.
  • Jordan Smith (S.C. State) scored two touchdowns (one rushing, one passing) in the Bulldogs’ win over Howard.
  • Kam’Ryn Thomas (Norfolk State) recorded 96 yards on six receptions with two touchdowns against N.C. Central.
  • Jianni Woodson-Brooks (Morgan State) tallied eight tackles, including 3.5 for loss, and one sack against Delaware State.
