MEAC Announces Cross Country Weekly Awards

NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 22, 2025 — Maryland Eastern Shore’s Siyabonga Mbatha was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. Howard’s Alexis Jones was named Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. 

Mbatha (Jr., Johannesburg, South Africa) captured his first career individual title at the Howard Invitational men’s 8k, finishing in 15:45.70 to lead UMES to a third-place team finish. 

Jones (Fr., New Windsor, N.Y.) captured the individual title at the Bison Invite, crossing the line in 18:34.90 to lead Howard to a first-place team finish at their home meet. 
 

Other Top Performers  

  • Mileah Cotton (DSU) paced the Hornets with a 9th-place finish in 20:50.2 at the Bison Invitational. 

  • Rebecca Jepngetich (UMES) placed 3rd overall with a time of 19:04.07, helping UMES secure a second-place team finish at the Bison Invitational. 

  • Ian Kimutai (NSU) led the Spartans at the Panorama Farms Invitational, placing 28th with a time of 24:19.30. 

  • Sonia Koech (NSU) led the Spartans at the Panorama Farms Invitational, clocking 22:45.50 in the 6k. 

  • William Shepherd (HU) placed 2nd overall at the Bison Invitational with a time of 15:51.30, helping Howard secure gold on their home course. 

  • Lekan Sotonwa(DSU) led the Hornets with a 5th-place finish in 16:06.4 at the Bison Invitational.
