MEAC Announces Weekly Men's Basketball Honors

North Carolina Central’s Raasean Davis and Norfolk State’s Nic Thomas have been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Men’s Basketball Players of the Week, the conference announced today. Florida A&M’s M.J. Randolph was named Rookie of the Week while Nicolas Fennell of North Carolina Central and Cedric Council of Coppin State are the Co-Defensive Players of the Week.

Davis averaged 19.5 points and 11 rebounds in two contests this past week in wins over Christendom College and McNeese State. In a blowout win over Christendom, Davis showcased pure efficiency scoring 18 points in just 18 minutes of play and going 8-for-12 from the field. Against McNeese State, Davis scored 21 points while grabbing 17 rebounds and having three blocks in the tight 67-66 win. Overall, he shot 60.7 percent from the floor and netted all five free throw attempts.

Thomas averaged 19 points, four rebounds and two assists over the past week. He led Norfolk State to a big win this past week in an exciting 94-89, double overtime win over Hampton University. He had a career night after scoring 25 points on 7-for-17 shooting from the field. He also made four three pointers for the third time in the last four games and made 7-of-8 attempts at the charity stripe and grabbed six rebounds in a career-high 45 minutes of play. Thomas also scored 18 points versus Stony Brook two nights prior while closing the week with a 14-point outing at Kent State. 

Fennell had a career high eight steals in a blowout win over Christendom College as he tied for the second-most in the Division I era at NCCU, while moving to third overall in a single game. Three days later against McNeese State, he recorded a crucial steal which led to two made free throws to pull NCCU within one under a minute to go, sparking the comeback 67-66 comeback win over McNeese State. He averaged 4.5 steals in two games over the past week.

Council was a consistent performer over the past two games as he averaged eight rebounds, two blocks and 1.5 steals per outing for Coppin State. He grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds while also blocking four shots and swiping two steals in a hard-fought overtime loss at James Madison. He also grabbed a total of five boards and had one steal against UMBC several days later.

Randolph had an efficient week for the Rattlers as he averaged 8.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 2.3 assists while shooting 50 percent from the field. He scored 11 points with six rebounds and two steals at North Florida while recording three steals at South Alabama and DePaul, respectively.

NOTABLE PERFORMERS
Jordan Butler (Norfolk State) had a season high nine rebounds and five blocks in win over Hampton.

Justin Steers (Coppin State) scored a team-high 10 points in a loss to UMBC, shooting 50 percent from the field.

Terry Harris (North Carolina A&T State) made a total of eight three pointers against Presbyterian, including seven in a row to start the game.

 D.J. Jones (Florida A&M) accumulated five blocks, 15 rebounds, along with three assists, one steal and a total of 18 points in three games.

Lamar Morgan (Coppin State) scored a season-high 20 points in loss to James Madison, netting five three pointers in the contest.

Ibrahim Sylla (North Carolina A&T State) averaged 10.5 points and accumulated six blocks over the past week.
