MEAC Announces Weekly Men's Basketball Honors

Howard’s R.J. Cole has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Players of the Week, the conference announced today. Morgan State’s Sherwyn Devonish-Prince, Jr. was named Rookie of the Week while Cletrell Pope of Bethune-Cookman is the Defensive Player of the Week.

Cole averaged 20 points, eight assists and five rebounds as the Bison finished the week with a 1-1 mark. He shot 46 percent from the field while also averaging two steals per contest. In the win versus American, Cole scored 21 points, dished out 10 assists, shot 53 percent from the field and grabbed seven rebounds in 34 minutes of action. Versus Appalachian State, he scored 19 points with three steals and six assists. The sophomore was also efficient from the free throw line as he shot 78.6 percent (11-of-14).

Pope dominated the boards on both sides of the floor in the Wildcats’ three-game California trip as he grabbed a total of 36 rebounds (12 per contest). He opened the trip with a 10-rebound, one-block outing at Saint Mary’s while grabbing 12 boards at San Jose. He saved his best for last with a 14-rebound performance at Cal Poly in which five of the boards came from the offensive end.

Prince averaged 16.5 points, three rebounds and 2.5 steals in wins against Binghamton and Towson. He shot 52.2 percent (12-of 23) from the field while shooting 66.7 percent from the three-point line. shooting.

NOTABLE PERFORMERS
Zion Cousins (Howard) made his presence felt off the bench with a season-best 12 rebounds, six points, and four blocks in the home win over American.

Raasean Davis (North Carolina Central) finished 10-for-11 from the field while scoring a game-high 21 points with six rebounds versus Appalachian State.

Zacarry Douglas (North Carolina Central) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, while scoring seven points and having two steals in the contest against Appalachian State.

Saleik Edwards (Delaware State) shot 5-of-10 from the three-point line en route to a 19-point outing versus Jacksonville State.

Chad Lott (Howard) averaged 20 points over a two-game stint while also grabbing five rebounds with two blocked shots.

Nigel Marshall (Coppin State) posted back-to-back double-digit scoring performances at Richmond and against Tennessee State. He also grabbed a season-high in rebounds in both games with six at Richmond and eight versus Tennessee State.

M.J. Randolph (Florida A&M) scored 16 points with six rebounds, four assists, four steals and one block in a two-game stint.

Justin Ravenel (Florida A&M) scored 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including a 6-for-12 performance from the three-point line with two assists and two rebounds against Fort Valley State

Andre Toure (Howard) scored a season-best 14 points against Appalachian State.
