MEAC Men's Basketball Weekly Honors

Morgan State’s Phillip Carr and Savannah State's Robert Kelly have been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference co-men's basketball players of the week, the conference announced today. Kelly was also tabbed the Rookie of the Week while Hampton's Trevond Barnes captured Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Carr led Morgan State to a 2-0 start in MEAC play as he averaged 27 points, 11 rebounds and shot 53.8 percent from the field. The junior from Brooklyn, New York had a career-high 29 points with 12 rebounds as Morgan State held on to beat Norfolk State last week and posted a game high 25 points with 10 rebounds to drop Bethune-Cookman. Carr registered his eighth double-double (pts & rebs) of the season and his fourth-straight game of 20-plus points at BCU. He also earned his second consecutive MEAC Co-Player of the Week honor and was also named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week in consecutive weeks during the month of November.

Kelly had one of the top shooting performances in the nation this season as the freshman finished a perfect 11-of-11 en route to a 26-point performance in his MEAC debut last week versus Bethune-Cookman. The 6-7 freshman from Powder Springs, Ga. completed the double-double with 11 rebounds (five offensive) while also dishing out two assists along with two blocks and two steals in 30 minutes of action. Kelly, who was also named MEAC Rookie of the Week, earns the honor for the second time this season.

Barnes had a career night in Hampton's MEAC-opening win versus North Carolina A&T State with career highs in blocks (4) and rebounds (9). Barnes' four blocks occurred in the first half as he played a season-best 34 minutes.
