South Carolina State’s Eric Eaves and Morgan State’s Phillip Carr have been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference co-men's basketball players of the week, the conference announced today. Howard freshman Charles Williams was named Rookie of the Week while North Carolina Central's Will Ransom captured Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Eaves had the top scoring performance in the MEAC last week as he poured in 32 points during a nail biter at Jacksonville this past Saturday. The 6-3 senior from Columbia S.C. also grabbed six rebounds and recorded a block and steal. Eaves also shot 64.3 percent from the field, 83.3 percent from the three-point line and 75 percent from the free throw line.
Carr averaged a double-double of 23.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in two games last week. The 6-8 junior from Brooklyn, N.Y. shot 42.9 percent from the field, 40 percent from the three-point line and 90 percent from the charity stripe. He scored 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds at Loyola Marymount last week while scoring 25 points with 11 rebounds and two blocks at Cal State Northridge.
Williams led Howard in scoring once again for the past week as he averaged 14 points and 3.5 rebounds over the past week. The 6-5 freshman from Richmond, Va. scored 20 points at Virginia Commonwealth last Tuesday and grabbed five rebounds with two steals at Harvard on Friday.
Ransom averaged 11 rebounds and 2.5 blocks as North Carolina Central finished the past week with a 2-0 mark. The senior from Fort Worth, Texas pulled down 14 rebounds with three blocks versus Truett McConnell and followed it with eight rebounds and two blocks versus Montreat.
