Howard's James "JT" Miller was named MEAC men's basketball player of the week, the conference announced today. Howard's Solomon Mangham and Norfolk State's Alex Long were named co-Defensive Players of the Week while Hampton’s Jermaine Marrow was named Rookie of the Week.

Miller had his second consecutive 30-point game as the 6-5 guard from Clinton, N.C. poured in 30 points along with six steals and three assists as Howard won its home opener versus American on Saturday. Miller was a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe while connecting on 68 percent of his shots and he finished 11-of-16 from the field.

Marrow led the Pirates to a 1-1 mark last week as the freshman from Newport News, Va. averaged 19.5 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. This marks the second consecutive Rookie of the Week honor for Marrow. He scored a career-high 27 points in a win over William & Mary last week as he played the entire contest.

Long led the MEAC with 4.5 blocked shots in two games last week while also grabbing seven rebounds and averaging 1.5 steals. He had seven rebounds and three blocks at Loyola Chicago on Nov. 30 followed by a career-high six blocks, seven rebounds and two steals versus Northern Kentucky this past Saturday.
