MEAC Men's Basketball Weekly Honors

Maryland Eastern Shore's Bakari Copeland has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week, the conference announced today. Howard freshman Charles Williams was named Rookie of the Week while Norfolk State's Jonathan Wade captured Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Copeland averaged 17 points and six rebounds in three contests last week as the Hawks finished 1-2 overall. The senior from Decatur, Ga. shot 44 percent from the field, 54.4 percent from the three-point arc, 73.3 percent from the free throw line along with averaging two assists. In the non-conference win at Texas-El Paso last Wednesday, Copeland scored a game-high 27 points along with seven rebounds on 53.8 percent shooting.

Williams was the leading scorer for Howard last week as he scored 19 points in the team's contest at Old Dominion. The 6-5 freshman from Richmond, Va. shot 50 percent from the field, blocked one shot and finished with three rebounds.

Wade averaged seven rebounds per game last week while also tying for the team lead in steals with 1.5. The Spartans finished 1-1 last week as Wade led the team in rebounding in both games. In the overtime win versus Eastern Kentucky last week, the redshirt senior grabbed nine rebounds with one steal followed by two steals and five rebounds at Purdue.
