MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY WOMEN?S BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. Hampton senior Malia Tate-DeFreitas was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. North Carolina Central’s Jada Blow earned Rookie of the Week, while Kailyn Williams, of Bethune-Cookman, was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Tate-DeFreitas (G, 5-9, Sr., Harrisburg, Pa.) shot 44.4 percent from the floor (28-of-63) to finish with 74 points, 13 rebounds, 12 assists, seven steals and one block in three wins. She earned game MVP honors in a 58-55 win over Lafayette at the Hall of Fame Challenge. Also, she sank two free throws with 5.1 seconds remaining, and blocked a game-tying 3-point attempt as time expired.

Blow (G, 5-5, Fr., Chicago, Ill.) compiled 35 points, five rebounds, six assists and two steals against Campbell and Old Dominion. She scored a career-high 28 points, including five 3-pointers, against Old Dominion, which is the most points by an NCCU freshman in the program’s MEAC era.

Williams (C, 6-4, Sr., New Orleans, La.) totaled 18 rebounds and 11 blocks against Southern and Southeastern Louisiana. She notched her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 13 rebounds against Southern. Offensively, she averaged 17.5 points in the two games.

Kanesha Battle (B-CU) finished with 13 points, on 4-of-9 shooting, against Southern.

Tiyonda Davis (SSU) totaled 19 points, seven rebounds, eight blocks and four steals against Iowa State and Kennesaw State.

Braennan Farrar (MSU) scored a game-high 26 points, on 10-of-20 shooting, against University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Kenyata Hendrix (SSU) shot 3-of-5 from the 3-point line, tying the school record with 153 career 3-pointers, against Kennesaw State.

Aliyah Kilpatrick (NCAT) averaged 12.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.3 steals in three games at the Savannah Invitational.

Kaylah Lupoe (HAM) registered a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, with two blocks, in the win over Maine.

Mariah McCoy (MDES) recorded a game-high 24 points, with six 3-pointers, against N.C. State.

Florence Ouattara (FAMU) scored a team-high 16 points against Richmond.

Kayla Roberts (NSU) was named to the Christmas City Classic All-Tournament team after averaging 19.0 points and 13.0 rebounds in two games.

Jordan Strode (NSU) notched 19 points, nine rebounds, six assists and one block, in two games, to earn Christmas City Classic All-Tournament team honors.
