DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Savannah State men’s golf teams opened the spring portion of the 2014-15 season with the Gary Freeman Spring Invitational, hosted by fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) school Bethune-Cookman this weekend.
The Tigers finished seventh in the men’s Division I bracket with a three-round, team score of 966 (336, 309 and 321). Senior Travis Roe led SSU, finishing in seventh place in the individual standings.
Roe shot a 78 to open the tournament, and then followed it with a 71 in the second round. Roe finished the final day with a 78 for a total score of 227.
Brandon Neals improved on his first round 83, shooting a 79 in the second round. Neals finished with an 80 for a three-round total of 242.
Trevor Podner finished behind Neals with a 250 (91, 79 and 80), followed by Devon Jakes with a 259 (92, 80 and 87). Playing as an individual Kevin Metzger shot a 251.
Florida Atlantic won the men’s Division I bracket with a team score of 296. Marcus Plunkett of Army won individual medalist honors with a three-round score of 220.
The Tigers continue the 2015 season with a trip to Louisiana for the Wallace Jones Invitational, hosted by the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
