NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State senior Cindy Okpegbue was named the 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Year, the conference announced today.

Maryland Eastern Shore’s Zuzana Ondruskova earned Rookie of the Year honors, while Bethune-Cookman head coach Brittany Williams was selected the Coach of the Year. All honors were voted on by the MEAC’s head volleyball coaches and sports information directors.

Okpegbue leads the MEAC in kills per set (3.87) and points per set (4.34). She registered five double-doubles in kills and digs this season. Okpegbue posted a season-best 27 kills in a conference match against Maryland Eastern Shore and became the school’s all-time career leader in kills per match (1,245). She earned the MEAC Player of the Week honor on September 21.

Ondruskova ranks fourth in kills per set (3.38), points per set (3.91) and eighth in service aces per set (0.31). A four-time MEAC Rookie of the Week honoree, Ondruskova recorded eight double-doubles in kills and digs. Also, she registered a season-high 26 kills and eight digs in a 3-1 non-conference win over Presbyterian. Ondruskova was named the MEAC Player of the Week on September 14.

Under the helm of Williams, the Lady Wildcats posted a 10-0 MEAC record and a 13-15 overall mark. In her first season, she guided Bethune-Cookman to its first southern divisional title and regular-season sweep of interstate rival Florida A&M. The Lady Wildcats rank first in the MEAC in blocks per set (2.28) and digs per set (15.17), and second in the MEAC in hitting percentage (.203), opponent hitting percentage (.180), assists per set (11.20) and kills per set (12.24).

Joining Okpegbue on the 2015 All-MEAC First Team is teammate Chelsee Sauni, Rakaya Neely (B-CU), Delicia Pierre (B-CU), Hazel Ortiz-Rosado (B-CU), Dei’ja Martin (FAMU), Khaila Donaldson (HOW) and Morgan Marlbrough (HOW).

The 2015 MEAC Volleyball Tournament begins Friday, November 20 at 10 a.m. in Princess Anne, Md. The competition continues on Saturday with the semifinal matches scheduled at noon and 3:30 p.m.

The volleyball championship tournament will conclude on Sunday, November 22, beginning at noon and will telecast live on ESPN3 and tape-delayed on ESPNU.
