Savannah State Defeats Arkansas State, Broadnax Wins 100th Career Game

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State defeated Arkansas State 67-61 to give head coach Horace Broadnax his 100th career win before 927 fans at Tiger Arena.
Jovonni Shuler had a game-high 20 points for the Tigers. Preston Blackmon added 16 points, Joshua Montgomery scored 14 while Jyles Smith had 10 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks.
SSU, who won their third in a row, led by 13 with 7:42 remaining saw the Red Wolves rally to pull within three points with 28 seconds left. Blackmon and Montgomery both made a pair of free throws in the final seconds to seal the win.
The Tigers improved to 5-17 while Arkansas State fell to 12-13.
ASU jumped out to a 7-0 lead but Savannah State put together a 11-2 spurt to go ahead 11-9 with 13:24 left.
With the game tied at 15, SSU strung together another run for a 23-15 advantage with 7:17 on the clock.
ASU got within three but a pair of layups by Shuler and a 3-pointer by Blackmon gave the Tigers a 32-22 lead with 2:40 left before halftime.
SSU led 36-28 at the break.
Leading 40-35, SSU increased their lead to 52-39 with 7:42 left, before Arkansas State started to chip away at the Tigers lead.
Rashad Allison had 18 points for Arkansas State, who out-rebounded SSU 43 to 26.
