Edwin Bailey started every game during his four-year football career at South Carolina State (1977-1980). He helped the Bulldogs to a 35-7-2 mark, including three MEAC football championships (1977-1978 ,1980) and three consecutive post-season appearances (1977 Gold Bowl, 1978 Pelican Bowl and 1979 Gold Bowl).

Bailey earned All-MEAC first-team accolades three times (1978-1980) and was named an American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) I-AA All-American in 1980.

As a 1981 fifth-round draft choice in the National Football League (NFL), he enjoyed an 11-year career with the Seattle Seahawks setting several club records.

Bailey was inducted into the South Carolina State University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998 and was recently honored as a member of the South Carolina State Centennial Football team (1907-2007).
